The Charity is seeking to appoint two or three new Trustees to join its Board towards the end of 2024.

The Charity was set up over 90 years ago and now has professionally managed investment funds of around £37 million. We aim to give away £1 million a year and our charitable giving is directed by our governing document as to 30% for hospices and homes for the elderly, 30% for young people and 40% for women in need. The Charity operates within a 60 mile radius of Birmingham Town Hall.

We are looking for investment, financial and welfare/social work/healthcare professionals with suitable experience (working or retired) to join our Board of Trustees.

Even if you have not considered becoming a Trustee before now, or do not fit in precisely with our brief, we still want to hear from you if you have the passion and skills to help the Charity. We provide support to anyone joining who is new to this type of role. We reserve the right to appoint whatever number of candidates appears appropriate after the interview process has been concluded.

We are keen to welcome applications from groups who are currently under-represented on the Board, in particular:

  • Those under the age of 35;
  • Disabled people; and
  • Those from the diverse communities of the West Midlands.

The Board meets five times a year and Trustees are encouraged to make visits to beneficiary organisations in addition to attending regular meetings. Trustees are also encouraged to join one of our three beneficiary focus groups to increase their understanding of the charitable areas we support. The overall time commitment is between four and six days a year. The Charity is based in the centre of Birmingham where normally all meetings are held in-person. Trustees are not paid but reasonable out of pocket expenses are met. The Charity is in the process of converting to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and appointment is likely to be to the CIO. Trustees are appointed for five years initially, renewable for two further five year terms of office.
